GardenTwin

Intelligent garden irrigation for your plants & beds

Less guessing, more growing.

Two weeks of vacation and nobody to water? Or forgotten yet again whether the bed already got its water?

Tending a garden by gut feeling costs time, water and sometimes the plant. GardenTwin brings zones, irrigation and care tasks together at a glance — controlled automatically, but always overridable by you.

Waters automatically for you

Save water, keep your plants

GardenTwin waters based on soil moisture and the weather forecast and pauses when it rains — so only what the plants really need is watered. If you connect a rain barrel or cistern, rainwater is used first; fresh water only steps in when the supply is empty. And a plant that gets enough water at the right time has to be replaced less often.

This is GardenTwin

What is GardenTwin?

GardenTwin is a complete system: our own, self-developed hardware in the garden plus an app and the GardenTwin Hub that control everything. It is not an app you attach to an existing irrigation setup — the technology in the garden is part of GardenTwin. Three parts work together: the app, the valve boxes in the garden and the GardenTwin Hub.

The app

On your phone you see which plant needs water when, and you can water manually at any time. It can be installed on your phone like a regular app.

Valve boxes in the garden

Our valve boxes do not just contain the valves themselves, they also measure soil moisture right at the plant. They connect via Wi-Fi.

The GardenTwin Hub at your home

The Hub is a small computer that is connected to your home Wi-Fi/LAN. It collects the measurements, takes the weather forecast into account and plans the irrigation. It runs at your place, and the control does not need a third-party cloud. Only for weather data and plant recognition are external services queried. A subscription is not planned for it.

How GardenTwin works

Step 1 of 4: Measure

Measure

The valve box measures soil moisture right at the plant.

One system instead of two

Irrigation and plant care are usually kept apart: one app controls the watering, another handles care schedules and plant knowledge. GardenTwin brings both together in one system. And it is meant to belong to you: buy it once, no subscription, no ads. Because it runs at your home, the control stays in your hands.

Home Assistant integration

There is an integration for Home Assistant that lets you connect GardenTwin to an existing smart home. The integration is built; the real-world test in an actual garden is still pending.

Where we honestly stand

GardenTwin is still in development and not available yet. The app, the Hub and the software of the valve boxes are being built right now. What will be available later, when and on what terms has not been decided yet.

What GardenTwin can do

The key features at a glance.

Your plants are watered when they need it — and not when it rains.

Illustration of a garden with automatically irrigated beds

Zones in the garden are watered automatically based on soil moisture, plant needs and the weather forecast. Rain is detected, and planned irrigation is then paused or reduced automatically. You decide freely what a zone is — from a single bed to the whole lawn.

How GardenTwin compares

Ready-made systems are usually convenient but cloud-dependent, DIY is flexible but laborious — GardenTwin aims for independence without the effort.

  • The comparison shows the planned feature set. GardenTwin is still in development.
  • Information about other systems reflects their publicly documented state.
  • If the GardenTwin backend itself is down (e.g. for maintenance), schedules and sensor logic keep running; manual watering from the app is then not possible.
  • The weather forecast needs an internet connection. Without internet it pauses, while soil moisture sensing and control on the home network keep working.

Frequently asked questions

No. GardenTwin is designed for families with a garden who want to control irrigation based on real data instead of gut feeling — without having to become tech experts. Several people can have access with different permissions (admin, user, view-only).
